August Film - Anomalisa - 15th and 24th August

The second screening of our August film - Anomalisa - will be on Wednesday, 24th August at 6.50 pm. Wine will be available to purchase on the night.

Charlie Kaufman, the mind behind 'Being John Malkovich' and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', returns with 'Anomalisa', which David Stratton considers the most original film he has seen in a long while and one of the most exciting.  He gives it four and a half stars!  A British born man flies from his home in LA to work in Cincinnatti and checks into the Fregoli Hotel.  Fregoli is the name given to a rare disease in which the victim holds a delusional belief that different people are the same person, able to change his or her appearance.  This, according to Stratton, is a significant clue to the meaning of the film.  Prepare yourself for a heartfelt and singular experience, funny, sad, shattering and honest, as the man struggles with his inability to connect with other people.  A thought-provoking treat!

July film - The Daughter - 18th and 27th July

The screening date for the second screening of the July film The Daughter will be Wednesday, 27th July, 7pm

The cinema has kindly offered to provide biscuits and cheese for film club members, wine (red and white) will be available to purchase from 6pm.

A star-studded Antipodean cast (Geoffrey Rush, Sam Neill, Miranda Otto, Odessa Young, to name but a few) appear in this month's AFC film 'The Daughter', which is loosely based on Henrik Ibsen's 'The Wild Duck'.  It is a deeply-involving, naturalistic drama in which family skeletons in the cupboard are slowly revealed with potentially devastating results.  A hot favourite at Sydney, London and Stockholm Film Festivals - and now in Armidale!  Nothing but the best for our AFC members!

June Film - Mistress America - second screening, Wednesday, 15th June, 7.00 pm

The second screening of the June film, Mistress America, will be Wednesday, 15th June at 7pm.




Mistress America
Director Noah Baumbach and his muse Greta Gerwig return (after 'Frances Ha') with yet another critically-acclaimed film set in New York.  This warm, zany comedy about eager young people trying to find their place in the world is Indie cinema at its best. Four starts from David Stratton.  We hope you enjoy it!

 

May Film - Truth - second screening - Wednesday, 18th May, 6.45pm

The second first screening of our May film, Truth, will be on Monday, Wednesday. 18th May at 6.45pm.


Truth:
The story of The Killian Documents controversy (a.k.a. "Rathergate") in the days leading up to the 2004 presidential election. When veteran newscaster Dan Rather and CBS News head Mary Mapes choose to air a segment on 60 Minutes exposing how President Bush avoided being drafted to Vietnam through his father's political advantages, the resulting fallout ultimately costs them their jobs and reputations.

April Film - 45 Years - First Screening, Monday, 11th April, 5.35pm

The second screening of the April film - 45 Years- will be Wednesday, 20th April at 7.20pm at the Belgrave Cinema.

Striking a very different note from our last film ...

Winners of Best Actor and Actress at the Berlin IFF, Tom Courtenay and Charlotte Rampling (also nominated for an Oscar) portray a long-married couple suddenly prompted to wonder how well they really know each other when a letter arrives which raises a ghost from the past.  A wry, witty, wonderfully true-to-life drama that leaves a very big impression.  One of the finest British films of recent years.

March film - 99 Homes - Wednesday, 21st March, 6.45pm

The second screening of our March film, 99 Homes, will be on Wednesday, 21st March at 6.45pm.

Wine (red and white) will be available for purchase at the cinema to celebrate the start of the new film season.

2016 membership is now available!

Join us for another 12 months (11 films) of films. Tickets for the 2016/2017 season are now available from the Belgrave cinema.

Some details:

• Membership for 2016 for 11 films will be $85, which works out as $7.27 per film.
• Every annual pass includes two companion vouchers to bring a friend for the cost of a standard ticket.
• Members may choose to go either to a Monday or a Wednesday screening of the film (usually around 5.30pm Mondays and 7pm Wednesdays).
• This season, non-members will be able to purchase individual tickets to any film for $20
• Tickets for members will be available approximately one week before the screening.

The first film of the season, 99 Homes, will be screening on Monday 14th March and Wednesday, 23rd March - exact times tbc.

99 Homes is a powerful, intelligent film depicting the life of a family evicted from their foreclosed home in Florida when the father becomes unemployed.  Their move into a cheap motel prompts him to do whatever it takes to get their house back.  Tautly constructed, the film critiques the class divides in US society where everyone, even those living on the margins, wants to follow the American dream of having their own home.
