December Film - The Lobster
The screenings of The Lobster will be on Monday 7th
December at 5.30pm and Wed 16th Dec. Screening time for Wednesday to be confirmed
closer to the date.
Members can redeem their tickets from Tues 1st
Dec for the screening on Mon 7th.
'The Lobster' was one of the most talked-about films at Cannes this year and winner of the Jury prize. This dramatic comedy set in a dystopian future features single people who are banished to a seaside hotel, perhaps in Ireland, to find a partner within 45 days. Otherwise they will be turned into an animal of their choice. Quirky, deadpan, original with a stellar cast including Colin Farrell, Léa Seydoux, Rachel Weisz and Ben Whishaw, this is a cinematic experience like no other

June Film - Whiplash
The Armidale Film Club film for June (Monday, 8th and Wednesday, 24th June) will be Whiplash.
We thought long and hard before deciding to select
'Whiplash' (MA 15+)for the AFC as the topic (fear being the key to forging a
musical genius) might not be to everybody's taste. But the jazz drummer's
cruel manipulative mentor did win an Oscar (Best Supporting Actor) for his
performance and there are many critics who judge it the best film of
2014. So, let's see if you agree with them!!

During Vivian Maier's lifetime, her extensive photographic
portfolio was largely unknown. This remarkable documentary, which was
nominated for an Oscar in 2014, changed all that. The images she created
are both impressive and fascinating and the story of her life is
gripping. The film also raises certain ethical issues, which we hope will
leave you with lots to discuss when it's over, always the hallmark of an
excellent film, we feel. Enjoy!

Locke - April 2015
The second film for this year's film club season (Monday, 20th April and Wednesday, 29th April) will be the US film Locke.
Leaving the construction site on the eve of a major project, construction manager Ivan Locke receives news that sends him driving the two hours from Birmingham to London, but even further from the life he once knew. Making the decision that he has to make, he then calls his wife, his sons, his co-workers and boss telling them the secret that he is bearing and trying to keep his job and family intact. But even more importantly, he will have to face himself and the choices he has made.
We've chosen this film partly because of it's uniqueness, but also because it was one of Margaret Pomeranz's five best films of 2014. Its uniqueness stems from the fact that it is entirely set in a car (don't worry it's not too long!) and the driver, played by Tom Hardy, has had rave reviews. Don't let this put you off. On the contrary, it's a thrilling drama and everyone we know who's seen it has enjoyed it!
